Edwin is a master student from Chalmers University in Sweden, doing experiments for his thesis here at Ocean TuniCell. He will complete his master’s degree in biotechnology and tissue engineering this summer.
For his experiments, Edwin is using chondrocyte spheroids together with TUNICELL hydrogels to create tissue engineered cartilage.
The aim of cartilage tissue engineering in general is to replace or repair damaged cartilage for people struggeling with joint pain and arthritis. Cartilage can be challenging to work with, but it is exciting to think that your cartilage might one day be made from a marine biomaterial grown in the ocean here in Norway.
